I am so excited to share another one of my blouse sewing projects with you! This Ruffled Halter Blouse Sewing Template is a fun, feminine design with lots of beautiful gathering and ruffles. I made mine using a gorgeous hot pink satin fabric, which really shows off all those gathers and gives the blouse such a pretty, romantic look.
One of my favourite things about this blouse is how simple the basic construction actually is. The design starts with a simple rectangular piece of fabric, and the shape is created through folding, stitching, gathering and a long fabric strap. The strap runs through the blouse and helps gather the neckline and bottom while also creating the ties.

Fabric Texture Suggestions
There are so many different fabrics you could use to make this Ruffled Halter Blouse. Your fabric choice can completely change the personality of the finished blouse.
I used satin for mine because I wanted something shiny, dressy and feminine. Satin also creates beautiful soft folds when it is gathered, making it especially lovely for showing off the ruffled design.
You could also try:
- Lightweight cotton
- Cotton lawn
- Cotton poplin
- Voile
- Chiffon
- Crepe
- Rayon
- Lightweight linen
- Eyelet fabric
- Embroidered fabric
- Broderie anglaise
- Lightweight sequin or sparkly fabric
For a soft cottagecore version, I would choose a lightweight cotton, voile or embroidered fabric. For something dressier, satin, chiffon or a subtle sparkly fabric would be beautiful.
Since this blouse has quite a bit of gathering, I would avoid fabric that is extremely heavy or stiff. A fabric with enough softness to gather nicely will help create those pretty, full ruffles.
Fabric Pattern/Colour Suggestions
This is one of those sewing templates that I think would be so much fun to remake in completely different colours and prints.
Of course, I love the bright hot pink version! The colour combined with the shiny satin makes the blouse feel playful, romantic and a little glamorous.
For a softer look, try blush pink, powder blue, mint green, butter yellow, lavender, peach or cream. White would also make a gorgeous summer version.
For prints and patterns, I think this blouse would look especially pretty in:
- Pink and white gingham
- Blue and white gingham
- Tiny rosebuds
- Ditsy florals
- Daisies
- Polka dots
- Delicate stripes
- Tiny bows
- Wildflower prints
- Vintage-inspired florals
You could even make several versions of the same blouse. A rosebud print could become a romantic cottage blouse, blue gingham could give it a sweet picnic look, while hot pink satin could be saved for parties, dinners or evenings out.
What This Can Be Worn With
Because the blouse has so much volume and detail through the ruffles and gathering, I especially like the idea of pairing it with simpler bottoms.
For a casual outfit, wear it with high-waisted jeans or tapered denim trousers and sandals, flats or sneakers. The blouse becomes the statement piece while the denim keeps everything relaxed.
You could also wear it with:
- High-waisted shorts
- A fitted denim skirt
- A flowing midi skirt
- A simple maxi skirt
- High-waisted trousers
- Wide-leg pants
- Linen trousers
- A simple A-line skirt
For a romantic summer outfit, try the blouse with a long flowing skirt, a woven bag and pretty sandals. A gingham version would be adorable with denim for a picnic or casual day out.
The satin version can easily be dressed up. Pair it with tailored trousers or a skirt, a small evening bag and dressy shoes for dinner, a party or another special occasion.
